Things We Enjoyed This Week: Shine, Steve Martin & Gold Grills

August 18, 2013 by MsCheevious

If you don’t have time to click and view a bunch of stinkin’ links and you have time for nothing else today, I would love for you to skip to the bottom to see a very important thing I enjoyed this week, from my friend Manolis: SHINE.

FIRST UP:

Steve Martin & the Steep Canyon Rangers with Edie Brickell

– Steve Martin & The Steep Canyon Rangers (and Edie Brickell)

I don’t remember if I told you that M.C. Nugget and I went to see Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers with special guest Edie Brickell at the Hollywood Bowl recently. We weren’t sure what to expect, but it was part of a “jazz” package I bought Nuggie for his birthday. It ended up being one of our favorite nights thus far in the series, though they’ve all been fab. I heard through a friend that the entire ensemble played on David Letterman that week, so I searched it out.  I was pleasantly surprised to find there is actually an album with both Steve & Edie called “Love Has Come for You.” It’s one of the things I enjoyed this week, and I think you may enjoy it too.

– Is gold in your grill a “thing” now?

You’d be surprised what I run across while sitting in front of the BIG SCREEN. This peeked my interest, but ACK. Who thinks GOLD on your teeth (or glitter, diamonds, whatever) is appealing?  To be honest, I think I’ve seen these, and my first thought was not Oh.My.God. How quickly can I get one of those gold caps on my front tooth? My first thought was Major tooth problem, and they couldn’t afford a porcelain cap, so they went for gold. Awe poor millionaire celebrity… And THEN I thought, Whew! So glad that is not me! I would DIE without my strong teeth, or my ability to eat my Cookies by Designcookies any time I want! If you do follow the link, you’ll see how WAY out of the loop I was on this. Who’dda thunk the bling-masters of the Universe would introduce bling for our teeth? But they did. And, well…let’s just say, a few people do NOT need to draw attention to their grill.  Me? I have a fabulous grill, if I do say.  So, after much thought… my dentist appointment is SET.

NOT.

And if you do NOTHING else… if you click NO OTHER LINKS this week, I would like you to click the following:

Shine by Manolis Paschalidis

– “Shine” by Manolis Paschalidis

Manolis Paschalidis is a guy I’ve come to know and love from Greece. GREECE… for all its beauty and culture is sadly the place where turmoil, violence and unrest has become the norm. I’m sad to say that GREECE puts the unemployment we’ve seen in America to shame. It’s the place where the term “down turn” glibly thrown around here in recent years, when used while talking to a Greek person, is an insult. It’s even more harsh than throwing salt onto a wound … it’s more like taking the steel spikes from a pair of stilettos like these:

Steel Spiked Heels

affixing them to a baseball bat, and bashing and thrashing those spikes into that wound. It’s just like THAT.

I’d wager a bet most Grecian people would happily swap hardships with any American.

Manolis and I have never met in person. Our relationship is quintessentially that which began and was cultivated solely through social media. We met on YouTube. When I started vlogging a couple of years ago, Manolis was one of the first to watch and comment. I know that if I ever post a video on YouTube, “M” as I’ve come to call him, is there soon after with a comment.

AND HE COMMENTS ON EVERY SINGLE PERSON’S VIDEOS HE FOLLOWS.

EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Let that sink in. He actually WATCHES each video in its entirety and comments. And he doesn’t just say something like “great video,” no.  Manolis will quote things you’ve said in the video and LOL it or talk about it. THIS IS EXTRAORDINARY. Because of this, he’s developed a very supportive and loyal following on YouTube and in other social media realms (of which, I am included). Check him out on YouTube. BUT NOT YET.  First check out his album “SHINE” and pick up a copy, or at least a single. Let me know you did in the comments. I’d appreciate it, and I know a guy over in Greece who will be blown away.

These are some of the things we enjoyed here at the Ms. Cheevious Chocolate Grotto this week. Enjoy your upcoming week people!  Don’t forget I am here blogging every single day on the #DailyMischief, and only one post a week goes to the subscription list (this one included). Nuggie is also providing a photo of his choosing every day for the #DailyNugget. You actually have to visit the site to read these posts, and believe me… you don’t want to miss them. Enjoy.

Love you people!!!! Mmmmmmmppphhhuuuhhh!!!!

Things We Enjoyed This Week: One Shade of Red

March 23, 2013 by MsCheevious

THINGS WE ENJOYED THIS WEEK – MARCH 23, 2013

ONE SHADE OF RED

I was pleased to learn this week of a colleague, Scott Bury‘s upcoming book “One Shade of Red” – a parody of sorts to the knockout bestseller “Fifty Shades of Gray”. I’m also thrilled to be a part of the cover reveal (design by a mutual colleague David C. Cassidy) below:

One Shade of Red by Scott Bury

Here’s the synopsis for the book:

Women want the perfect man, so they can change him. But when university student Damian Serr discovers a rich, beautiful woman who’s voracious about sex, he doesn’t try to improve on perfection. It’s all that he can do to hold on for the ride.

Damian has always followed the rules, always tried to please others. At 20, he still dates the girl next door because his parents like her parents. When Nick, his university roommate, asks Damian to take over his pool-cleaning business so he can take an internship in London, Damian can’t say no — especially to Nick’s first and only client, a rich widow.

But widow Alexis Rosse is far from helpless or lonely. This beautiful financial genius is busy turning the markets upside-down, and she revels in sex wherever, whenever and with whomever she wants.

Over the summer, Alexis gives Damian an intense education. Day after day, she pushes him to his sexual limits. The only question he has is: will she break them?

Above synopsis aside (which was enough to intrigue me), when I read an excerpt (here) I was pleasantly surprised! Not that I didn’t expect Scott to write a good book, no. I guess I just half-expected this book to be anything BUT a book I would read (don’t even get me started on that one… it has to do with other male writers I’ve known from vastly different circles, and my inability to consider representing them as their publicist because of their poor writing abilities) — but au contraire.

Though the above synopsis alludes to a sexy romp of a book, I  found the excerpt to be super interesting and fun!  It made me want to read more. Isn’t that really what it’s supposed to be about… this whole “book-reading” thing?

And, on another note, how NICE it is to see a DUDE LIT-style book! And from what I can tell, it’s well-written at that. Those two words (well and written), when put together are enough to drive me cRaZY (in a good way)! It’s such a refreshing break from the over-done, over-saturated CHICK LIT genre our world can’t seem to get away from.

ONE SHADE OF RED. Wait for it. It’s available April 2nd.

I WISH I WAS BACK TO A HUMAN!

If you haven’t seen this AT&T commercial, it’s a must. Don’t go ANY.WHERE. I mean it. Watch this and thank me later. It is so funny, it has now entered the vernacular here at The Ms. Cheevious Chocolate Grotto.  In fact, just this morning I was whining and mumbling (I’m quite adept at the whine-mumble combo) about  how much work I have, and I found myself sounding just like this little girl.  Once you listen, you may have to ask yourself, “What came first? Ms. Cheevious’ whiny rants or this little girl’s?”

For those who cannot see the above youtube video in their browser, here is the photo as a link:

Screen Shot 2013-03-23 at 10.38.41 AM

This commercial is so much a part of our conversation now that I ended my morning rant as such, “I have so much to do.. I have to write my blog… I want to work on my book, I have taxes… … … Rrrruh rrrruh rrrruh rrrruh… I wish I was back to a HUMAN…”  To which, M.C. Nugget replied, “So do I!”

Love you people!!!! Mmmmmppppuuuhhhh!!!!

Things We Enjoyed This Week: Mutterings

January 21, 2013 by MsCheevious

When thinking about the Things We Enjoyed This Week and Mutterings… well it occurred to me:  I don’t really get writer’s block. Here’s how my lack of writer’s block relates to a post about mutterings:

I’ve heard rumor of writers I know being paralyzed by writer’s block. But I get more of “writer’s overload.” I have too many things I want to say, far too often. So, as I began to contemplate what to say for another Things We Enjoyed This Week post, well, I was stuck. I suppose one could say this is writer’s block… but really, I had so much I could share, I was overwhelmed! The “stuck” part came when determining which (if any) of them would be a fit for a post Ms. Cheevious. That was a quagmire. I’ve had some really amazing things going on this week, and over recent weeks, not least of which is the publishing of my book “Ahhhhhh … Haaaaaa Moments with Ms. Cheevious” for Kindle (please feel free to click that link and “like” my book on Amazon, if nothing else)! But also, I’ve taken on a cool new client who is opening a 1920’s themed night club, I  enjoyed football even though my Patriots lost, I saw some fantastic and laugh-so-hard-I-cried comedy…  I saw two great flicks, other people I know enjoyed other films… and it goes on and on!

There was chatter online and around me about many things, and I enjoyed reading or hearing it all, but nothing was really striking me… until today.

I was perusing my social media accounts and one of my Twitter friends Jason Ramsey, who is pretty great about sharing my news when it’s important, posted a tweet which struck me. It looked like it may be a blog post, and I wasn’t clear whether he wrote it or not, but it made me click. Here is the tweet:

JasonRamseyTweetImage

I think I clicked the tweet, because I wanted to know if Jason wrote a post and then, perhaps I would share it in return for all his tweets and retweets on my behalf.   I was immediately taken to another blogger’s (not Jason’s) site, who was obviously another benefactor of Jason’s. The blog is Melissa Say What?. The post is called Unconscious Mutterings. She shared a free association word game. You see a word, and respond with the first thing that pops into your head.

Unconscious Mutterings Post Image

This was IT! I loved this! And here, my lovelies is what sums up the Things We Enjoyed This Week: Mutterings….

Sometimes, when we are wholly and completely CLUTTERED with way too much stimulus, all you can do is MUTTER…  And it takes something as simple as a word-association game to clear the mind of all the clutter. That or, it’s just my brain that is too freakin’ cluttered, and it took a mindless word game to make me giggle… and yes, I should probably be committed.  But you know, this little word game could help you today. I’m not sure how or why, but I’m pretty confident of that fact. So, I’m sharing it here for you as well.  Feel free to copy/paste and share this (and your own word-associations) … and if you want to tell people where you saw it, well fabulous…  Here is my version:

  1. Offered :: Gave
  2. Center :: Core
  3. Benefit :: Gift
  4. Yay! :: YAY!
  5. Wonderful :: Pleasant
  6. Currently :: NOW
  7. Resignation :: Regret (don’t ask me why)
  8. Testing :: Struggles
  9. Strangely :: Oddly
  10. Clinic :: Lab

Love you people!!!! Mmmmppphhhuuuhhh!!!!

Things We Enjoyed This Week: Tech Talk iPhone 5 on SNL

December 5, 2012 by MsCheevious

I’m revealing way too much about my age for my own good by saying this, but I actually remember the days of Saturday Night Live with Chevy Chase, Gilda Radner, John Belushi, Steve Martin and so many other comedic greats. I was young and impressionable, but god were they laugh-out-loud, pee-your-pants funny. I’ve always held to the belief that few casts since have matched the “funny” of that first group. Of course, there are obvious exceptions to that, and SNL has managed to maintain its seat at the throne of comedy for decades with some off-the-charts hilarious sketches. My dear friend from Bad Online Dates is an internet geek, and told me about this sketch she saw last weekend. She so graciously shared the link, and I have to say it is one of the BEST skits in a LONG time from SNL! It’s intelligent humor at its best. It KILLED both me and M.C. Nugget. And I don’t say that lightly. Rarely does something make me laugh so hard that I die, but this one did. Someone resuscitate me now.

Enjoy it as we did, but be ready with the defibrillator:

In the event the embedded video (above) does not display – even after you have refreshed your browser, I’ve provided an image of the video below which links directly to it. Feel free to click below if you can’t make the widget above work, but come back to click the links to some of the other great sketches I’ve provided here as well.

Tech Talk: iPhone 5 by Saturday Night Live (SNL)

Hey, as much of an old-school SNL girl I like to believe I am, that video ranks way up there.

As far as old-school, if you have ever heard someone say “We’re just some Wild & Crazy Guys?” but didn’t know it came from an iconic SNL sketch, then click here to check it out. If you’ve never heard the saying before in your life, well, I’m sorry. You can leave, after you crawl out from under your rock.

And if you haven’t seen these more recent skits, it’s about damn time… you will DEFINITELY need the defibrillator for at least one of these:  Dick in a Box and Schweddy Balls. And of course, if you have ever known anyone from Southern Californian, then you know they’ve NAILED it with their sketch The Californians.

Stay tuned for more of the Things We Enjoyed This Week, and perhaps something entirely different.

Enjoy Every Moment, you lovely ladies and gentlemen.

Things We Enjoyed This Week: Eli Roth’s Goretorium & the Mandarin Hotel Las Vegas

September 29, 2012 by MsCheevious

Things We Enjoyed This Week – The Week of September 23, 2012

Eli Roth’s Goretorium in Las Vegas &

The Mandarin Hotel Las Vegas

————————————————————————————————————————–

Eli Roth’s Goretorium in Las Vegas

What it is: A 24-7, Year-Round Horror Attraction on the Las Vegas strip, right across from the Cosmopolitan

Why We Enjoyed It: Because we were flown in and provided luxurious lodging for the grand VIP opening (and by we, I mean me). That’s enough reason for us, but we also walked down the black carpet (and everyone knows that in the world of horror, black is the new red), and secured sufficient photographs and interviews for our PR client. Our thrill was probably nine tenth’s anticipation, because the place was the dream child of and concocted by Hollywood horror director and actor Eli Roth.

One Thing We Especially Liked: Baby Dolls Nightclub (on the top floor)

We especially liked it because, whew, we’d made it through the “haunt” that was a maze of gore, violence and near zombie attacks. Then voila, there we were in a nightclub, with scantilly clad women handing us free cocktails (this was, of course, because of the grand opening. You won’t get free cocktails if you go there unless you know someone, or are, in fact, Eli Roth. So, please don’t tell them we said you could.), and we could look out over the city of Las Vegas.

We were mesmerized (or horrified, I suppose) by the great wall of dead baby heads.  Yes, dead baby heads. It’s gross, it’s gory and it’s downright disgusting. But hey, Dane Cook made “Baby Punching” comedic, so what were we to expect from the masterminds of gore and horror in this, their pet project?

Another Thing We Liked: The close proximity to the Cosmopolitan Hotel, and our all-time FAVORITE giant stiletto (because, our list of favorite giant stilettos is quite long).

Goretorium is an attraction that will probably thrill most teenagers, any horror fan you know, or those looking for something completely different to do on the Vegas strip. Send them here: GORETORIUM

————————————————————————————————————————–

The Mandarin Hotel Las Vegas

What it is: A Zen-Like Premiere, Luxury Hotel on the Vegas Strip

Why We Enjoyed It: It’s a refreshing and relaxing luxury hotel experience in Vegas ===> there is no casino… there are no loud nightclubs. The opulence of the lobbies (there are two) and the plush rooms, without the cigarette smoke or whirring, dinging sounds of slot machines nearby make you feel as though you are not in Sin City. The ambient music and atmosphere is uber relaxing. Even the turn-down service consists of rose petals, candles and pebbles by your bedside. It’s perfect for non-smoking gambling addicts, or those addicted to pampering (that’s me). It’s also a perfect retreat after a night of wild and crazy indulgences out on the strip (also me).

One Thing We Especially Liked: What’s not to like? The rooms felt like we were in the most serene of spas. The ground floor lobby accents included deep red tulips on the tables (a personal favorite).  Also the Gold Pillow Wall on the 1st Floor Lobby, and the Gold Nugget Wall on the 23rd Floor Sky Lobby.

Here are some photos:

Visit the hotel’s website here, and if you stay there, tell them Ms. Cheevious sent you:

Breathe…. and Enjoy Every Moment everyone.

Love you people!!!! Mmmmppphhhuuuhhh!!!!

PS) So sorry the link that said “Don’t Be Shy! Leave a Reply” in last week’s email was incorrect. I’ve hired some new link elves, and I think it’s been rectified for now. No promises on long-term link-elf accuracy. The shelf life of accurate link elves is entirely unpredictable.

Things We Enjoyed This Week: Esquire Magazine

August 26, 2012 by MsCheevious

We’re pleased to launch a new series for MsCheevious.com, entitled Things We Enjoyed This Week. (And by ‘we” of course, “we” mean me – Editor in (Mis) Chief, and primary writer here). This little nugget will come to you as frequent as those things we enjoy are revealed to us – and equally as seldom. Let’s try not to keep track, shall we?

Things We Enjoyed This Week – The Week of August 26, 2012

September’s Esquire Magazine

Recent issue read, cover-to-cover: September 2012, Volume 153, No. 2

Why: It’s intelligent, interesting and doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s also environmentally friendly (in this month’s note from David Granger, Editor in Chief, he cleverly wove his obsession with energy into an interesting and witty introduction of an article on the United States’ use of oil and the tar sands. Sounds dry, but he forayed that into a teaser-finish on a article still brewing about natural gas, and, he was able to “still be crazily entertaining.”).

One Thing We Especially Liked: Esquire Indulges, page 42

It’s a page devoted to requests by readers, and this little gem shows up in the Front of Book, which means there’s a boat load of good, meaty reading to follow.

Kudos to the magazine for recognizing that its writers and editors don’t hold an exclusive on good ideas.

Our favorite from this page? Recent Birth Announcements by A.J. Jacobs.

Jacobs brings little known current events as well as social mores or cultural quips to our attention in the form of witty birth announcements (Below are re-config’d samples – a cheap attempt at replicating what you will see in the magazine):

There’s bouncing baby boy “My Grudge” –

And little whipper snapper “Sin” –

To see what’s in the issue in a nutshell go to the Esquire Magazine website:

Stay tuned for more of the Things We Enjoyed This Week, and perhaps something entirely different.

Enjoy Every Moment my lovelies.

xoxo,
